The foot consists of the long pastern (or first phalanx), the short pastern (or second phalanx) and the triangular (or third phalanx).
The triangular is normally enclosed by the hoof (not included). Not shown are ligaments, tendons, pads, and cartilage that contribute to the complicated structure of the horse's foot.
