This injection simulator was developed to train physicians and nursing staff to perform lumbar or spinal injections on an infant.

Infants commonly require the practice of lumbar injection as a diagnostic procedure used to take a cerebrospinal fluid sample, measure cerebrospinal fluid pressure, or for intrathecal drug administration.

The simulator for training to perform lumbar or spinal injections depicts a 10- to 12-month-old child placed in a left lateral decubitus position, with neck and knees flexed, approximately in the fetal position.

The iliac crest incorporated into the simulator provides extraordinary realism, while the removable spine, spinal canal, and skin pad make training on this manikin extremely easy.

Lumbar puncture can be performed in L3/L4, L4/L5 or L5/S1.

The correct injection site can be identified by palpating the iliac crest and spine.

A small touch will be made sentre as the spinal needle slowly advances into the correct space; when the needle is in the correct position the cerebrospinal fluid will flow.
