The movable, flexible spine is mounted on a base, along with the occipital bone and pelvis, with the sacrum and coccyx.

The particularly interesting feature of this model is the ability to examine the stage of bone growth relative to a 5-year-old child, which includes:

• A still partially incomplete transition of the vertebra between the vertebral body and the vertebral arch.
• The still incomplete fusion of the vertebral column into the sacrum, which begins at about age 15 years.
• The still open Y-shaped suture in the pelvis as the main region of growth of the acetabulum.
• The portions of the iliac bone, pubic bone and ischium not yet welded together (fixed on the model by jumpers). In fact, their welding begins around 14-16 years of age.
